What Shaft Adapters Do

An adapter is glued onto the shaft tip and slides into the hosel of an adjustable head, where a screw in the sole locks it in place. Rotating the adapter changes loft, lie or face angle depending on the system. It also lets you swap a fitted shaft between compatible heads.

Are golf shaft adapters universal?

No, adapters are not universal. Each brand uses its own hosel design and many change between generations, so an adapter must match your specific head model. The adapter bore must also match your shaft tip diameter, usually .335 for drivers and .370 for hybrids.

Will an aftermarket adapter keep my loft settings?

Most aftermarket adapters copy the original setting positions, so the markings and adjustments work the same way. Small differences can exist between makers, so check the setting markings once fitted and confirm the head sits and locks correctly before you play.

Does an adapter change club length?

Yes, the adapter adds length below the end of the shaft, so the finished club is longer than the raw shaft measurement suggests. Always measure the assembled club when trimming a new shaft, and allow for the adapter when planning your target playing length.

How tight should the head screw be?

Tighten the head screw with a torque-limiting wrench until it clicks, then stop. That set torque holds the head securely without stripping the screw or stressing the hosel. Check the screw occasionally, as a loose head can rattle and damage the adapter.
