Choosing a Gauge Design putter
- Uncut or assembled: uncut putters let you set length, grip and lie to suit your posture. Assembled 34 inch models are ready to play for golfers who suit a standard length.
- Centre shaft or bent shaft: centre shaft and bend shaft designs generally reduce toe hang, suiting straighter strokes. Neck styles with more offset or toe hang suit arcing strokes.
- Blade or mallet: blades such as the Devon give feedback and a classic look, while mallets like the Transformer add stability.
- Length: most golfers putt with 33 to 35 inches. If you are outside average height, an uncut head is the better starting point.
Because many Gauge Design heads are offered uncut, it is worth measuring your current putter and noting your preferred grip before ordering.

Gauge Design FAQs
What does uncut mean on a Gauge Design putter?
Uncut means the shaft has not yet been trimmed to a final playing length. This lets the putter be cut to your exact length and fitted with your preferred grip. It is the best choice if you have a specific setup in mind or sit outside the standard 33 to 35 inch range.
What is the difference between centre shaft and bend shaft?
A centre shaft putter has the shaft entering the middle of the head, while a bend shaft uses a bent shaft section to position the hands and face. Both typically produce a face balanced or near face balanced putter, which suits golfers with a straighter stroke.
Is a 34 inch putter right for me?
A 34 inch putter suits many golfers of average height, but the right length depends on your posture. At address your eyes should sit over or just inside the ball with arms hanging naturally. If you choke down or feel cramped, an uncut head built to your length is worth considering.
Can I change the grip on a Gauge Design putter?
Yes, you can fit any standard putter grip that suits your shaft. Many golfers pair a boutique head with a branded grip like the Gauge Design grip, while others choose a larger or heavier grip to change feel. Remember that heavier grips make the head feel lighter.
