View full detailsIron shafts connect your hands to your irons, and choosing the right weight and flex makes a real difference to distance control and strike. Shop iron shafts at Clubtech Golf in steel and graphite, in taper and parallel tip designs, for golfers reshafting a set, building custom irons or replacing a single damaged shaft.
Steel and graphite iron shafts
Steel remains the most common choice in irons because it offers consistent flex, a solid feel and tight dispersion. Graphite iron shafts are lighter and absorb more vibration, which helps golfers with slower swings, joint pain or anyone who wants an easier launch. Both are available in a wide range of weights.
How to choose iron shafts
Weight
Steel iron shafts range from lightweight models around 75 to 95 grams up to tour weights of 120 grams and more. Lighter shafts help slower swingers launch the ball and gain speed. Heavier shafts generally suit faster players who want a lower, more controlled flight.
Flex
Choose flex based on your 6 iron swing speed and tempo. Regular suits most average swingers, stiff suits faster players, and X flex is for very high speeds. Some lines also offer SR and R2 options in between.
Taper tip or parallel tip
| Taper tip | Parallel tip | |
|---|---|---|
| Tip diameter | .355 | .370 |
| How it is supplied | A specific shaft for each iron | One length, tip-trimmed per club |
| Hosel fit | .355 bore, or a .370 bore with a shim | .370 bore |
Check your head's hosel bore before ordering, and look for the tip size in each product title.
Kick point and launch
Low kick point shafts help launch the ball higher, while mid and high kick point shafts produce a flatter, more penetrating flight. Many modern shafts use progressive profiles that launch the long irons higher and the short irons lower.
Iron shaft brands
Nippon makes up much of the range, from the lightweight Zelos and 950GH Neo through to the Modus3 Tour family, including the NS Pro Modus3 Tour 120 Luxury Black and the NS Pro 1050GH parallel tip shaft.
KBS offers the C-Taper, Tour and Tour V lines, plus graphite options such as the KBS Generation Graphite iron shaft. Graphite fans can also look at the Fujikura Axiom 95 iron shafts and UST Mamiya Dart V models. True Temper, LA Golf, FST, Apollo and Orlimar complete the range, including steel shafts for junior builds.

Iron Shaft FAQs
Should I get steel or graphite iron shafts?
Choose steel if you want maximum consistency, a solid feel and a lower flight, and choose graphite if you want lighter weight, easier launch or less vibration. Modern graphite iron shafts perform well for many golfers, so the decision comes down to feel, swing speed and comfort.
Can I reshaft just one iron?
Yes. Replacing a single bent or broken shaft is common, and matching the original model, flex and length keeps the set consistent. If the original shaft is no longer made, choose one with a similar weight and profile so the club still feels like the rest of the set.
What flex iron shaft do I need?
Most golfers who carry a 6 iron around 150 to 165 metres suit stiff flex, while those carrying it less often suit regular. Tempo also matters: a quick, aggressive transition usually needs firmer flex, and a smooth swing can suit softer flex.
Do heavier iron shafts help accuracy?
For many stronger players, yes. Extra weight can smooth out tempo, reduce shaft twisting and tighten dispersion. Slower swingers usually get better results from lighter shafts, because a shaft that is too heavy reduces speed, launch and carry.
What does a taper tip shaft mean?
A taper tip shaft has a .355 tip and is made to a set length for each iron in the set. It needs little or no tip trimming. Parallel tip shafts have a .370 tip and are trimmed individually, which suits club builders working from a trimming chart.
