2023 US Open - Tournament Preview

This week the world's best head to heart of Beverly Hills for the 2023 US Open, with this years open being held at the prestigious North Course of the Los Angeles Country Club. The layout appears more generous than typical US Open venues given that weather hasn't allowed the rough to grow out as expected.

The course will play firm and fast and with well protected greens accurate iron play will be paramount to success.

Fun fact, the 113-meter 15th is the shortest hole in US Open history.

Our Thoughts

Viktor Hovland: Hovland has the best profile of any player in the field with Top 7s in his last three majors suggesting he has his foot on the till. He has two Top 13 finishes in four US Open starts. Ranks 6th in Total Driving, 7th in Strokes Gained: Off The Tee and 10th in Strokes Gained: Approach. Outside of West Coast form he ticks every box.

Collin Morikawa: Morikawa already has two majors to his name and one of those was on the West Coast, He has played three West Coast majors for a win, a T-4 and a debut major T-35. Finished Top 6 at the Genesis the last two years and Top 10 at The Masters the last two years.

Tyrell Hatton: Hatton has been outstanding from the tee this year. He ranks 11th in Strokes Gained: Off The Tee and 12th in Total Driving. Also ranks 13th in Scrambling.

Joaquin Niemann: Won the 2022 Genesis so obviously has a liking for LA golf. Finished T-16 at The Masters this year and has Top 40 finishes in seven of his last 11 majors. Ranks 8th on LIV in Scrambling.

Victor Perez: Quality player on the DP World Tour. Ranks 2nd in Par 3 Scoring, 6th in Strokes Gained: Off The Tee and 15th in GIR. Has the right game to feature.
