2023 US PGA Championship - Tournament Preview

The second golf major of the year is to be held at the East Course of New York’s Oak Hill Country Club. A Donald Ross-designed course which is built around Allen Creek, which comes into play as a hazard on nine holes. The East Course at Oak Hill is no stranger to majors having previously held three US Opens and three US PGAs.

A tough track where avoiding fairway bunkers and the heavy rough off the tee is the key to success. With the greens guarded on either side by sand or water, accuracy is paramount.

Our Thoughts

Jon Rahm: The best player in the world, and by some distance, and playing as well as anyone on the planet. Off a dominant win at Augusta. Ranks 2nd in GIR, 3rd in Strokes Gained: Approach, 10th in Driving Distance and 16th in Strokes Gained: Off The Tee, while also ranking 2nd in Par 4 Scoring.

Dustin Johnson: Comes off a very good win the the Tulsa LIV event and recent form on American soil has been exceptional. Still very long off the tee and has a very good record on Donald Ross courses and playing in the Northeast.

Cameron Young: Bomber who ranks 3rd on Tour in Driving Distance and 18th in Strokes Gained: Off The Tee. Has a great record in majors and did finish 2nd at the Rocket Mortgage last year at the Detroit Golf Club.

Sungjae Im: Great profile for here as a 20-something with four PGA Championships under his belt, a Top 20 world ranking and a string of Top 20s leading in. Ranks Top 20 in Sand Saves, Scrambling, Strokes Gained: Around The Green and Strokes Gained: Off The Tee.

Keith Mitchell: Huge off the tee. Ranks 5th in Strokes Gained: Off The Tee and 13th in Driving Distance. Also Top 12 in Proximity from 175-200 Yards. Absolutely a runner this week and has been enjoying a good season.
